The author has selected certain Welsh Mountain pony and Welsh cob families which he considers to have had the greatest influence on the development of the Welsh pony and cob breeds. The author mentions pre-historic references and quotes 15th and 16th century Welsh poets whose references to pedigrees are almost certainly the oldest in the United Kingdom and possibly in the world. Author Biography: Wynne Davies was awarded the MBE in 1995 for almost half a century's dedication to Welsh ponies and cobs. Dr Davies joined the Welsh Pony and Cob Society in 1948, has been a Council member since 1955, President in 1984/5 and Publicity Officer since 1978.
